Congressman Brady announces the award of FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant to Chester Township

Feb 3, 2012

PHILADELPHIA --- Congressman Robert A. Brady (D., PA) announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration, has awarded a $24,938 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Chester Township Fire Company, located in the First Congressional District. The grants are awarded directly to fire departments and EMS organizations.

The AFG will award approximately $380 million in competitive grants to fire departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations during FY 2011. Since 2001, the AFG has provided approximately $5 billion in grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much needed emergency equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.

Congressman Brady said, “These grants save lives and they improve the capability of small fire companies such as the Chester Township Fire Company to respond to fires and other emergencies.”

Chester Township Fire Chief Jeff Comisiak agrees. He said, “The grant will allow our department to purchase badly needed new radio and thermal imaging equipment to help aid in search and rescue operations. Without the grant such expensive equipment would have been beyond the department’s reach.”
